Hello! I’m Kay Slater and I joined the Glasgow Bar Association in December 2016 as a Legal Research Intern whilst completing the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Strathclyde. I have thoroughly enjoyed the work which I have carried out on behalf of the GBA as I have found that the research tasks which I have undertaken have been an invaluable opportunity to expand and develop my knowledge and understanding of both legal procedure and that of the legal profession as a whole. In all honesty, I have found the role to be truly rewarding as I enjoy working as part of a team to contribute to the important work which the GBA undertakes. I hope to continue to improve and broaden my research and analytical skills as a GBA Intern and I look forward to utilising these acquired skills during a Legal Traineeship where I would endeavour to work to the very best of my abilities. The members of the GBA have all been tremendously welcoming and supportive and are always approachable whenever a question arises! So far, throughout my short time at the GBA, I can truly say that the work which we are tasked with offers the perfect blend of an engaging yet challenging experience, which enables me to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges which currently face the legal profession.I would sincerely like to thank the members of the GBA, especially to Moira, Ron and Aileen for giving me this delightful opportunity! It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work alongside accomplished professionals who have been kind enough to give of their time, wisdom and expertise.I have a passion for Litigation and enjoy the process of research and presenting legal arguments. During my time on the LLB, I participated in annual Mooting competitions including the Alexander Stone Mooting Competition where I presented my submissions in the presence of Lord Malcolm. During my Honours year I managed to win the In House Mooting Competition in the High Court of Justiciary with Lord Kinclaven as the presiding Judge. I am seeking a Traineeship that would expose me to experience the process and procedures of Litigation. I would relish experience with regards to Criminal Law. However, I feel that any area of Litigation would prove to be engaging and stimulating.
"My name is Calum Frame. I graduated from the University of Strathclyde after having completed both the LLB and a LLM in Criminal Justice & Penal Change. I am currently studying toward completing the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow. My primary areas of interest are Criminal Law and Human Rights. I joined the Glasgow Bar Association as a Legal Researcher in December 2016, and haven't looked back since! The work I have carried out has been phenomenally rewarding, and has improved upon my researching skills immensely. I hope to take these skills onward throughout my career in law. The GBA members have been extremely helpful and friendly, especially Moira and Ron, who have been to offer advice whenever called upon. Through the GBA I have had many excellent opportunities to network and get myself known throughout the legal profession. There is never a shortage of work, and the GBA is never short of appreciation for the work that myself and the other interns have carried out. I would like to thank them for helping me to improve upon my skill set. "
